When it comes to investing in a computer keyboard - the options can be endless online.  For this reason, we're giving you 3 ways to know the computer keyboard you are looking into is ergonomically at gold standard.

How to Know Your Keyboard is Ergonomic?

1. It's Compact

The gold standard for ergonomic keyboards is a Compact Keyboard.

A compact keyboard can be up to 16 cm shorter than a standard keyboard and functions to position the mouse directly in front of the shoulder into a more neutral position.

A compact keyboard allows you to position your mouse into the optimal position for use - this can reduce the risk of shoulder pain from reaching.

2. Low Profile Keys

Traditional computer keyboards contain chunky keys that seem to have been making a comeback of late - I know - they're cute. However, ergonomically - 'keyboard bashing' with these kinds of keys can actually put you at risk of RSI conditions and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome due to the repetitive 'up/down' motion of the fingers.  To minimise this risk, always look for keys that are low-profile - that don't require much effort at all to press down on.

FUN FACT: Typing speed is generally faster with low-profile keys!

Low-profile keys require less force and effort on the joints and fingers.

3. Flat Keyboard

Keyboards with feet are now a big 'no-no' when it comes to your comfort and health.  Recent studies have shown that when using a keyboard, the wrists should be in the most neutral position, or slightly extended to achieve the least risk of developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

When we place feet on the keyboard, it forces the wrist and the base of the fingers to become over-extended.

For this reason - look for keyboards that are flat in design so that you can achieve the most neutral position in your wrists.

  • Want an ergonomic keyboard?  Make sure it's compact, with low-profile keys and flat  allowing your fingers, hands and wrists to have the most comfortable typing experience.
