High mesh back with independently adjustable lumbar support

Want a Breathable Mesh Chair Without Giving Up Proper Ergonomic Adjustment?

Mesh-backed chairs can feel cooler and visually lighter than fully upholstered office chairs, but the backrest alone does not make a chair ergonomic.

The Madrid High Back Clerical Chair combines a breathable high mesh back with a traditional 4-lever ergonomic mechanism, adjustable seat depth, seat angle, back angle, backrest height and independently adjustable lumbar support.

It is designed for someone who wants the airflow of mesh but still prefers to manually fine-tune how the chair fits their body rather than relying on a basic fixed office-chair mechanism.

Mesh where you want airflow. Manual adjustment where fit really matters.

Adjust the seat, backrest and lumbar support around your body rather than accepting one fixed chair shape for every user.

More Than Just a Mesh Office Chair

4X

4-Lever Adjustment

Fine-tune seat height, back angle, seat depth and seat angle rather than relying on a basic one- or two-control office-chair mechanism.

MESH

High Mesh Back

Provides a more breathable backrest surface for long periods of desk-based work.

50mm

Adjustable Lumbar Support

The lumbar support moves through approximately 50mm with four selectable positions so you can change where it contacts your lower back.

L6

AFRDI Level 6

Commercial-grade certification supports its use in demanding office and workplace environments.

Why Does a Chair Need More Than Height Adjustment?

Two people can be the same height and still have very different leg lengths, torso lengths and preferred sitting positions.

That is why chair fit involves more than simply moving the seat up and down.

The Madrid lets you change the relationship between the seat, backrest and your body using separate adjustments rather than asking every user to fit one fixed chair geometry.

Four Controls for a More Individual Chair Setup

H

Seat Height

Adjust the chair vertically to suit your legs and the height of your desk or workstation.

Seat Depth

Slide the seat forwards or backwards so the seat better matches your thigh length.

Seat Angle

Adjust the seat-pan angle to fine-tune how you sit rather than being restricted to one fixed seat position.

BACK

Back Angle

Change the relationship between the backrest and seat to suit different working positions.

Seat Depth Can Make the Difference Between a Chair Fitting and Not Fitting

A seat that is too deep can make it difficult to sit fully against the backrest without pressure behind the knees.

A seat that is too short may provide less support beneath the thighs.

The Madrid includes a seat-slide mechanism so you can change how much of the seat sits beneath your legs.

i

A useful starting point: sit fully against the backrest and adjust the seat depth so there is comfortable clearance behind the knees while maintaining support beneath the thighs.

Move the Lumbar Support to Where Your Lower Back Actually Is

A fixed lumbar contour assumes every user's lower back sits at exactly the same height.

The Madrid's lumbar support can move through approximately 50mm and locks into four different positions.

That allows you to reposition the lumbar contact point rather than having to move your body up or down to meet the chair.

i

More lumbar pressure is not automatically better. Choose the position that feels supportive without creating an uncomfortable pressure point.

The Backrest Height Is Adjustable Too

In addition to adjusting the lumbar support itself, the Madrid uses a ratchet-style back-height adjustment.

This gives you another way to change how the complete backrest relates to your torso.

Backrest height and lumbar height should be considered together rather than adjusted independently without checking the overall fit.

High Mesh Back for More Backrest Coverage

The Madrid High Back uses a mesh backrest approximately 61cm high × 52.5cm wide.

This provides considerably more vertical backrest coverage than a compact task-chair design while retaining the airflow associated with mesh.

The mesh back can be particularly appealing in warmer workspaces or for users who dislike the enclosed feel of a fully upholstered backrest.

Upholstered Seat with Moulded Comfort Foam

While the backrest uses breathable mesh, the Madrid retains an upholstered padded seat for a more traditional office-chair sitting surface.

The current manufacturer specification lists a seat approximately 52cm wide × 51cm deep.

Seat depth can then be altered through the seat-slide mechanism to better suit different leg lengths.

Check the dimensions before ordering

The Standard Manufacturer Seat Height Is Approximately 50–60cm

A chair can have excellent adjustment and still be the wrong size for a particular person.

The current manufacturer specification lists an approximate 50–60cm seat-height range.

If you are shorter in stature or normally require a low chair position, check that the minimum seat height will suit your legs and desk.

If the chair needs to remain higher so your arms align correctly with the work surface, a suitable footrest may help support your feet.

Weight capacity

The Madrid High Back Is Rated to 110kg

The chair is AFRDI Level 6 certified but has a specified maximum user weight of 110kg.

If you require a higher load rating, several other chairs in our range, including the Seville, Ergoform, Ergo Air and Endeavour 103, are rated substantially higher.

Choose a chair within its specified capacity rather than assuming all AFRDI Level 6 chairs have the same weight rating.

Particularly Well Suited to Long-Hour Office Work

Corporate Offices
Home Offices
Administration
Long-Hour Desk Work

It is especially relevant for users who want substantial manual adjustment, a high breathable back and the ability to reposition lumbar support rather than accepting one fixed lower-back contour.

Mesh Back or Fully Upholstered Back?

MESH

Choose the Madrid If...

You prefer airflow through the backrest and want the lighter feel of a mesh chair while retaining manual ergonomic adjustment.

PAD

Consider Upholstered If...

You prefer more padded contact through the entire backrest or strongly favour the feel of foam upholstery over mesh.

Madrid or Ergoform?

MAD

Madrid

Better suited if you want a high mesh back and lumbar support whose vertical position can be changed independently.

EF

Ergoform

Better suited if you prefer an upholstered backrest with a more pronounced integrated lumbar contour and require a higher 160kg load rating.

Madrid or Seville Mesh Chair?

MAD

Madrid

A strong choice if adjustable lumbar positioning and a high mesh backrest are priorities and the 110kg load rating suits you.

SEV

Seville

Better suited if you want a mesh ergonomic chair with a significantly higher 160kg load rating and a firmer lumbar-support feel.

Madrid or a Synchro Chair?

The Madrid is a good choice for someone who prefers manual control.

You choose the seat and backrest positions using the chair's separate controls.

A synchro chair such as the Ergo Synchro or Como takes a different approach, allowing the seat and backrest to move together dynamically as the user reclines.

Neither mechanism is automatically better. The decision comes down to whether you prefer manually selected positions or a chair that responds dynamically as you move.

Set the Chair Up in the Right Order

1

Start with Seat Height & Depth

Establish a comfortable position for your legs and desk, then adjust how much of the seat sits beneath your thighs.

2

Position the Back & Lumbar

Adjust backrest height and lumbar position until the backrest gives useful contact without creating excessive pressure.

3

Fine-Tune the Angles

Adjust seat and back angles around your preferred working position, then continue changing posture throughout the day.

A Highly Adjustable Chair Still Doesn't Have One "Perfect" Setting

Ergonomic adjustment is about fitting the chair to the person and the task, not locking the body into one supposedly ideal posture.

Use the Madrid's controls to establish a supportive working setup, then continue changing position, standing and moving regularly throughout the day.

No chair removes the value of movement, regardless of how adjustable it is.

AFRDI Level 6 Certified for Commercial Office Use

The Madrid High Back is AFRDI Level 6 certified, providing independent testing around chair strength, safety and durability for commercial office use.

This makes it suitable for individual home offices as well as organisations specifying seating across professional workstations.

Its specified maximum user weight remains 110kg.

Upholstered and Assembled in Australia

The Madrid supplied by No More Pain Ergonomics is upholstered and assembled locally in Australia.

The seat uses moulded cushioning designed for regular commercial office use, while the backrest retains its breathable mesh construction.

i

If your Madrid configuration includes armrests: they can be removed using an Allen key. Make sure any armrest position allows you to move close enough to the desk without pushing the shoulders upwards.

Choosing a New Chair Because Sitting Has Become Uncomfortable?

A chair with adjustable seat depth, backrest position and lumbar support can give you more control over how your body is supported while sitting.

However, no ergonomic chair can guarantee relief from back, neck, hip or other musculoskeletal symptoms.

Desk height, screen position, keyboard and mouse setup, sitting duration, movement and individual health factors can all influence comfort.

If you have significant or persistent symptoms, consider discussing your workstation with a physiotherapist, occupational therapist or other appropriate health professional.
